Meet Dr. Wilson
One of my favorite sheroes said, “Critically intervene in a way that challenges and changes” (bell hooks). I found this quote while doing research for my dissertation which focused on issues of masculinity and misogynoir within the Black community. I believe this quote is one I embody in the work I do with all clients and students.
Being in therapy can be difficult – it’s you being vulnerable, meeting a new person, breaking cultural and societal barriers, and getting to know parts of yourself that you’d maybe intentionally turned away from. My goal as a psychologist is to connect with, walk beside, and consistently challenge you in the goals you have set for yourself…and to help you identify a place to start when the goal may not be clear yet.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Texas, and I am authorized to practice interjurisdictional telepsychology in several other states (please see FAQ page). I am most passionate about working with men, couples, and underserved/minority populations.
I believe wholeheartedly in the treatment of each individual from a holistic perspective – looking at generational issues, medical concerns, trauma, and any other relevant (but possibly overlooked) aspects. My goal for Holistic Purpose is to eventually have additional staff on-board who have expertise in various areas (physician, dietician, etc.) so we can truly provide holistic treatment.
I tend to operate from a multicultural, trauma-informed perspective. I believe many of our current issues (i.e. difficulties navigating relationships, communication issues, anger problems, persistent guilt/shame, ingrained trauma responses, etc.) may have roots in our formative years. I also understand there are many other issues which are heavily connected to our present situations, such as experiences with racism, classism, homophobia/transphobia, ableism, sexism, etc. I consistently integrate Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused interventions, so I feel comfortable learning your needs and using interventions that are tailored to you.
You’re taking a big step by seeking help, so give yourself credit for that. Please reach out to schedule a free 15-minute phone conversation to ask any questions and identify goals you may have to determine if we are a good fit for therapy.
I look forward to meeting you, learning about you, and working together to help you become the best version of your authentic self.
